Puppy Training

Overview

Everstead K9 Academy - Puppy University

Raising a puppy is one of the most rewarding, yet challenging experiences. From around 4 to 16 weeks, your puppy is in the critical “socialization window,” absorbing everything from their environment and forming opinions about the world around them. It’s a time of rapid growth, learning, and development that sets the foundation for a well-adjusted adult dog. But navigating these early stages can feel like sailing through uncharted waters—so we’re here to help. Our Elite Puppy Training Program is designed to give you and your new puppy the tools you need to succeed during this formative time.

Training Type: In-home (Your puppy trains at your home)
Timespan: 10 weeks (1 in-home session per week)

Why Socialization Matters

Socialization is one of the most important things you can do for your puppy. It sets them up to navigate the world confidently and without fear or aggression. Early socialization helps prevent future behavioral problems and helps your puppy grow into a well-mannered adult dog. Socializing a puppy is much easier and less stressful than socializing an older dog, and starting early can eliminate unnecessary challenges later on.

What We Socialize Your Puppy To:

The Benefits of Socializing Your Puppy:

  • Less stress at the vet: Your dog will feel more comfortable around unfamiliar people and environments.
  • Better trips to the park: Your puppy will learn how to interact with their environment calmly and confidently.
  • More enjoyable walks: Your dog won’t be reactive to strangers, other animals, or unexpected distractions.
  • Happier, more confident dog: Socialized puppies grow up to be confident, well-adjusted dogs, which makes life easier and more enjoyable for both of you.

The Foundation Package is the ideal solution for busy owners who want a reliable, well-behaved companion trained by professionals, providing you with the tools and guidance to enjoy a more enjoyable, well-mannered dog at home and beyond.

Conditioning & Desensitization Techniques

We use counterconditioning and desensitization to help your puppy adapt to things that might normally trigger anxiety or fear.

  • Counterconditioning pairs positive rewards with exposures to fearful or anxious stimuli (e.g., loud noises, new people), changing your puppy’s emotional response from fear to enjoyment.
  • Desensitization gradually exposes your puppy to a stimulus at low levels to prevent an undesirable reaction. Over time, we increase the intensity of exposure to build their tolerance and reduce reactivity.

During the program, we’ll desensitize your puppy to:

  • Vacuum cleaners
  • Teeth brushing
  • Leashes and collars
  • Nail clipping
  • And much more!

Included Training Tools

We provide all the essential tools to ensure your puppy’s success:

  • Slip Leash
  • Elevated Bed
  • Clicker
  • Doorbells (for potty training)
